Fed: Costello's support of bill could push it through: Washer

Treasurer PETER COSTELLO's support of a private members' bill to strip control of RU486
from the health minister .. could push it through parliament.

Mr COSTELLO's told the lower house he supports the bill that would hand power over
the abortion drug to the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

Liberal MP MAL WASHER .. one of the sponsors of the bill .. says Mr COSTELLO's support
could be crucial.

He's told ABC radio .. amendments proposed by Liberal MPs JACKIE KELLY and ANDREW LAMING
.. seeking to give parliament control over the drug .. are unlikely to pass.
